Step 1: Loop the threaded needle around the RED stopper bead (ST) to secure it. Leave a six-inch tail.

Step 2: Thread 1 WHITE bead, followed by 3 ORANGE beads, 1 WHITE bead, 1 GREEN bead, and 1 WHITE bead (new beads are denoted by a dotted outline) .

Step 3a: Working TOWARDS the stopper bead

  • Pick up 1 WHITE bead and pass the needle through the sixth bead from the stopper (bead 6), with the needle pointing towards the stopper.
  • Pick up 1 GREEN bead and pass the needle through the fourth bead from the stopper (bead 4), with the needle pointing towards the stopper.
  • Pick up 1 YELLOW bead and pass the needle through the second bead from the stopper (bead 2), with the needle pointing towards the stopper.

Notice that you have threaded every other bead and a zig-zag shape has formed. Pull so the beads are snug and sit like the pattern.

Step 3b: Odd-count secure

  • Pick up 1 WHITE bead and pass the needle through the first bead in the top row (bead 1), with the needle pointing AWAY from the stopper, as shown in red.
  • Weave the needle through the next bead down and to the right (bead 2), as shown in purple.
  • Weave the needle through the next bead down and to the left (bead 3), as shown in green.
  • Weave the needle through the next bead to the right (bead 10), with the needle pointing towards the stopper, as shown in blue. In the same motion, weave the needle through the next two beads up and to the left (beads 2 and 1), as shown in blue. Pull the thread snugly so it is not visible.
  • Pass the needle back through the newly added bead (bead 11), with the needle pointing away from the stopper, as shown in pink.

Step 4: Working AWAY from the stopper bead

  • Pick up 1 ORANGE bead and pass the needle through the second sticking-out bead from the stopper (bead 10), with the needle pointing away from the stopper.
  • Pick up 1 ORANGE bead and pass the needle through the third sticking-out bead from the stopper (bead 9), with the needle pointing away from the stopper.
  • Pick up 1 GREEN bead and pass the needle through the fourth sticking-out bead from the stopper (bead 8), with the needle pointing away from the stopper.

Notice that you only threaded the beads that are sticking out to continue the zig-zag pattern. Pull so the beads are snug and sit like the pattern.

Step 5a: Working TOWARDS the stopper bead

  • Pick up 1 WHITE bead and pass the needle through the third sticking out bead from the stopper (bead 14), with the needle pointing towards the stopper.
  • Pick up 1 WHITE bead and pass the needle through the second sticking out bead from the stopper (bead 13), with the needle pointing towards the stopper.
  • Pick up 1 ORANGE bead and pass the needle through the first sticking out bead from the stopper (bead 12), with the needle pointing towards the stopper.

Step 5b: Odd-count secure

  • Pick up 1 WHITE bead and pass the needle through the closest bead in the top row (bead 11), with the needle pointing AWAY from the stopper, as shown in red.
  • Weave the needle through the next bead down and to the right (bead 12), as shown in purple.
  • Weave the needle through the next bead down and to the left (bead 10), as shown in green.
  • Weave the needle through the next bead to the right (bead 17), with the needle pointing towards the stopper, as shown in blue. In the same motion, weave the needle through the next two beads up and to the left (beads 12 and 11), as shown in blue. Pull the thread snugly so it is not visible.
  • Pass the needle back through the newly added bead (bead 18), with the needle pointing away from the stopper, as shown in pink.

Step 6: Working AWAY from the stopper bead

  • Pick up 1 WHITE bead and pass the needle through the second sticking-out bead from the stopper (bead 17), with the needle pointing away from the stopper.
  • Pick up 1 WHITE bead and pass the needle through the third sticking-out bead from the stopper (bead 16), with the needle pointing away from the stopper.
  • Pick up 1 WHITE bead and pass the needle through the fourth sticking-out bead from the stopper (bead 15), with the needle pointing away from the stopper.

Step 7: Complete ring to desired length: Repeat steps 5a, 5b, and 6 until the ring reaches desired length. Use pattern on reverse for guidance but always confirm ring size on desired finger. The start of the work must fit into the end of work (the end edge will have 3 sticking out beads, not 4).

Step 8a - Closing the ring: Remove the stopper bead and weave the working thread through the start and end of the work in a zig-zag, as shown in orange. Pull the working thread tight so the ring closes.

Step 8b - Securing the working thread:

  • Weave the working thread through the top bead at the end of the work, then weave the thread down and to the left twice, as shown in purple. Pass thread through the two purple-outlined beads 2.5 times. Pull the thread snug so it is not visible.
  • Weave the working thread down and to the left twice, as shown in green. Pass the thread through the two green-outlined beads in a circle 2.5 times, pulling very tight so the thread is not visible.
  • Weave the working thread down and to the left once, then through the bead to the left in the opposite direction, as shown in blue.
  • Weave the working thread up and to the left twice, with the final needle pass coming out at the back of the work, as shown in pink.
  • Pulling the working thread tight, snip the excess thread against the back of the work.

Step 8c - Securing the tail thread:

  • Transfer the needle to the tail.
  • Weave the tail thread through the top bead at the end of the work, then weave the thread down and to the right thrice, as shown in red. Pass thread through the two red-outlined beads in a circle 2.5 times. Pull the thread snug so it is not visible.
  • Weave the tail thread down and to the right once, then through the bead to the left in the opposite direction, as shown in yellow.
  • Weave the tail thread up and to the left twice, with the final needle pass coming out at the back of the work, as shown in brown.
  • Pulling the tail thread tight, snip the excess thread against the back of the work.
